Seminar on Bamboo Scaffolding Safety

About the Seminar

Construction Industry Council (CIC) is highly concerned about the accidents involving bamboo scaffolds and some cases were related to unsafe planking arrangement for providing working platforms on bamboo scaffold in the construction industry. In view of this, the CIC Secretariat and Task Force on Safety of Bamboo Scaffolds reviewed and updated the content of the 'Guidelines on Planking Arrangement for Providing Working Platforms on Bamboo Scaffolds' with relevant industry stakeholders, to further strengthen and improve work safety on bamboo scaffolds. At the same time, Labour Department (LD) revised the Code of Practice for Bamboo Scaffolding Safety (CoP) to provide construction contractors with practical guidance on how to comply with the relevant safety requirements set out in the occupational safety and health legislation.

On top of this, the Committee on Construction Safety of the CIC and the LD co-organise a Seminar with speakers from the Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union, Hong Kong Federation of Occupational Safety and Health Associations, and main contractor to share their experience on work safety on bamboo scaffolds. Through the seminar, it is hoped that participants will have a better understanding on the advantages of using closely spaced bamboo scaffolding design and can promptly implement the safety practices within their work areas.
